Our 2022 Wine Predictions Are In

What we think 2022 will bring for the world of wine.

And just like that, another year has passed — cheers to 2022! As we know, a new year always brings new trends. Our focus? Wine trends! We asked our Lead Sommelier Michael Bottigliero his predictions for the wine industry in 2022.

The US Will Go Local

We have already seen some shortages in 2021 due to supply chain difficulties. This year, US wines, and even local state wines, will be easier to turn to for consumers. Wines can get on shelves and into the hands of nearby consumers quicker when they are produced and sold locally.

Sparkling Wine Will Shine

For years, the sparkling wine movement has been trying to push sparklings as an everyday drink, not just for celebrations or brunch. This movement has paid off! Sparkling wine is the most versatile of all wines when it comes to food pairing and the word is finally getting out there!

Rise of Lighter & Chillable Reds

Not only are some wines getting too high in body (climate change) and alcohol, but some can turn out too sweet. People are learning that cooler climates produce lighter and more elegant wines which are best (as most reds are) with some "chill" to them. Reds should be served between 55-65°F and lighter ones can be served even colder. This refreshing aspect is perfect for rising summer temps!

Post-Covid E-Commerce

E-commerce for wineries has definitely risen. With more people being safer and getting vaccinated, "normal" life is starting to return. With this, competition between restaurants, bars, and wine shops comes back into play. To retain those gained customers, look for the e-commerce market to be more inventive in 2022.

Do you have any predictions for the wine industry in 2022? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
